Arizona Historical Quilt Study Group
AHQSG was founded in 2005 to bring Arizona antique quilt enthusiasts
together to share knowlege, experience, collections and love of antique
quilts. Because of the size of Arizona and the relative
"youth" of the state - we were the last state to join the
continental union - early quilts are not easily available for study.
AHQSG provides an opportunity for the novice and the knowledgeable alike
to learn and share. Meetings are held three times a year and are free
and open to anyone interested in quilt and textile history. To
accommodate the great distances of the state meetings are held in Dewey
(June and September) and in Phoenix (February). Plans are being made to
serve the southern portion of the state with meetings in Green Valley.
General meetings are rather informal. They are held on Saturdays from
10:30-1:30 pm and focus on a specific study topic presented by members
of the group. Each member is encouraged to share her expertise, area of
interest or newest pursuit. All are invited to bring quilts or items
from her collection. Recent topics have included documentation, blended
quilts, crazy quilts, quilt making in the 1930s, German design influence
on American quilts, restoration and design evolution. In addition to the
thrice yearly general meetings, mini groups meet indepently for more
indepth study, field trips or just to share our latest find. We also
keep each other abreast of exhibits, conferences, websites,
publications, organizations, events, etc. The collective knowledge of
the group provides a vast resource for dating, documentation,
identification and just plain helping to solve quilt mysteries.
Whether you are an Arizona resident, a snowbird or just visiting, we
invite you to join us. For further information and for the date of the
next meeting please contact Lenna DeMarco at demsing@msn.com
